In the Life In The Dirt Unit, students begin to explore and ask questions about dirt, a material we often take for granted. Students explore the composition of soil, what kind of soil is necessary to sustain life, and vast ecosystem teeming with life. Students will be introduced to the soil food web, and the role of decomposers in breaking down plant and animal materials and returning them as nutrients to the soil. This unit borrows heavily from the Four Winds Nature Institute curriculum and includes hands on activities, a puppet show, and videos to support learning.
